YOUTH Magazine| Race Together: the continued efforts to talk about race

by: Kassandra Edouard
For a country that is a melting pot, citizens are afraid to discuss racial diversity. Willingly are we to go to war and keep immigrants out of our country but quick to shut down any talk about racial inequality and the injustice plaguing our generation.

YOUTH Magazine| Summer's Here: Time for a New Handbag!

 by: Wanda Perez
As my first year of college comes to a close I've realized one thing: shopping is not a thing anymore. Sure, you have to shop for groceries and laundry supplies, but there isn't enough left in your budget to get that lovely emerald green peplum top that you saw in the window of Express.

YOUTH Magazine| Our Youth and Technology

by: Chris Cohen

We are all citizens in a world at the pinnacle of technological advancement. Just a few decades ago computers were being made that took up areas as large as a classroom. Now it seems as though everyone around has a computer in their pocket.

YOUTH Magazine| Review: Daring to Bring the Devil out of Marvel

by: Rachel Wicks

Ever since April 4th, 2014, when my friends dragged me to the Dartmouth theatre to go see Captain America: The Winter Soldier, I have pretty much entirely sold my soul to Marvel. I never intended for this to happen; I liked the films but I wasn’t particularly obsessed with them, but Winter Soldier was just so good I accidentally gained an automatic faith in anything Marvel slapped their name on. Sometimes this loyalty pays off, other times it doesn’t. I never could get into Agents of Shield and I’m certainly not jumping up and down over Ant-Man, but when I heard that Marvel had hooked up with Netflix to make their blind superhero Daredevil into a series, I had to see if this would pay off.

YOUTH Magazine| Review: Is Dear White People Racist?

by: Sade Smith

No. Dear White People isn’t racist. In fact, this question and a myriad of other race-based questions are answered throughout this sarcastic and “yasss” filled 2014 dramedy.

YOUTH Magazine| Review: The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

by: Rachel Wicks

For about a week or so, I’ve been hearing more and more people talk about a brand new comedy show on Netflix called Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Being a fan of comedy, and having a pre-established faith in anything branded as a “Netflix original”, I decided to check it out. The colors were bright, the theme song was catchy, and sometimes the more immature jokes were a little awkward to sit through, but this is a show created by 30 Rock’s and Saturday Night Live’s Tina Fey, so none of this really came as a surprise.

YOUTH Magazine| Gwen Stefani: Harajuku Girls

by: Liz O'Donnell

According to The Daily Dot cultural appropriation is the “practice in which people use a culture that’s not their own as a costume or a prop”. It is also a form of racism. Modern examples range from blackface fraternity parties, to non-Indian women wearing Henna tattoos, to Katy Perry’s Geisha get up with slanted eye makeup at the AMA in 2013.

YOUTH Magazine| Marijuana in the United States

by: Chris Cohen

The recent legalization of marijuana in the United States has initiated a cultural shift that has since gained support. Since the original legalizations that took place in Colorado and Washington in 2012 several other states including Alaska, Oregon, and the District of Columbia (Washington, D.C.) have decided to also legalize marijuana for recreational purposes.

YOUTH Magazine| Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

by: Ashley Wojtunik

Jaw dropped to the ground. Eyes wide open filled with shock, wonderment and a tinge of disgust. “You’ve never seen Harry Potter? Or read the books...what do you mean…”
